Miranda Hernandez, 34, is an attorney and daughter of state Representative Elizabeth 'Lisa' Hernandez (D-Cicero), deputy majority leader of the Illinois House and chair of the Illinois Democratic Party. Growing up, she is the child of Frank Aguilar's former political opponent β Aguilar defeated her mother in a 2002 race for an Illinois House seat. Miranda moved to Riverside, Illinois from Washington D.C. after Trump's inauguration in January 2025. In Washington she worked for a congresswoman and two senators, and served on the Senate Judiciary Committee staff and on the DOJ's Reproductive Rights Task Force under Biden. She holds joint J.D./MBA degrees from Northern Illinois University. She is currently a legislative deputy (and previously Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs) in the Cook County State's Attorney's Office. She has out-raised incumbent Aguilar and has the backing of powerful political figures and unions.
