Bio

Frank Aguilar, 65, is the incumbent Cook County Commissioner for District 16, first appointed to the board in 2020 when predecessor Jeffrey Tobolski resigned. He was elected to his first full term in 2022, defeating Republican Kimberly Jagielski 67.7%-32.3%. In 2002, running as a Republican, Aguilar defeated Lisa Hernandez (now state rep and Illinois Democratic Party chair) for a seat in the Illinois House; he subsequently became a Democrat. He serves as Chair of the Finance Tax Delinquency and Zoning & Building committees, and Vice-Chair of Asset Management, Emergency Management, and Law Enforcement. He championed small business development, infrastructure investment, and flood control mitigation for the district. He faces a primary challenge from Leticia Garcia (a repeat challenger from 2022) and Miranda Hernandez, daughter of his old adversary Elizabeth 'Lisa' Hernandez.
