Bio

Elyse Hoffenberg is the Democratic candidate for Cook County Commissioner District 17, running unopposed in the March 17, 2026 Democratic primary. She currently serves as Lyons Township clerk and is a former assistant state's attorney. She also serves as President of the Lyons Township Mental Health Commission. She previously filed to run for Illinois House District 82 in 2018 but withdrew before the primary (Tom Chlystek ultimately ran and lost to incumbent Jim Durkin). She will face Republican Liz Doody Gorman in the November 2026 general election for the open seat being vacated by retiring Commissioner Sean Morrison. District 17 runs along Cook County's western boundary from Elk Grove Village south through Schiller Park, Oak Brook, Lemont, Palos Park, and Orland Park.
