Bio
Alexi Giannoulias has served as Illinois Secretary of State since January 2023, elected in November 2022. He previously served as Illinois State Treasurer from 2007 to 2011. In 2010, he ran for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama, losing to Republican Mark Kirk by 2 percentage points. His family owned Broadway Bank in Chicago, which failed in April 2010 during the financial crisis — an issue that dogged his 2010 Senate campaign. As Secretary of State, he has focused on driver's license access, voting rights, and digitizing state services.
